New Spectral Analyses of Pre-white Dwarfs

چکیده
The very hot, H-deecient PG 1159 stars are found in the post-AGB region of the Hertzsprung-Russell diagram. Most likely the \born-again" post-AGB scenario is valid for their evolution. It predicts a nal He-ash which brings back the star to the AGB, followed by a second (He burning) descent from the AGB where a superwind may take oo the entire H-rich and most of the He-rich envelope and lay bare intershell layers, where Ne is the fourth abundant element after He, C, and O. In order to support this hypothesis, we present a search for the Ne VII 3644 A absorption line in several of these stars. The two presently known O(He) central stars of planetary nebulae, K 1-27 and LoTr 4, exhibit almost pure He II absorption line spectra. They are found in the post-AGB region of the Hertzsprung-Russell diagram just amongst the PG 1159 stars which in contrast show additional strong C IV lines. We present an analysis of three recently discovered O(He) stars, HS 0742+6520, HS 1522+6615 and HS 2209+8229, for which no associated planetary nebulae have been detected. It is likely that there exists an evolutionary channel for H-deecient post-AGB stars, \O(He) stars ! DO white dwarfs", which is separate from to the well established \Wolf-Rayet WC] central stars ! PG 1159 stars ! DO white dwarfs" evolutionary sequence.

Spectroscopy of New High Proper Motion Stars in the Northern Sky . I .
We define an enhanced spectral classification scheme for M dwarf stars, and use it to derive spectral classification of 104 northern stars with proper motions larger than 0.5 yr which we discovered in a survey of high proper motion stars at low galactic latitudes. The final tally is as follows: 54 M dwarfs, 25 sdK and sdM subdwarfs, 14 esdK and esdM extreme subdwarfs, and 11 DA and DC white dwa...
متن کاملSpectral types and masses of white dwarfs in globular clusters , ,
White dwarfs in globular clusters offer additional possibilities to determine distances and ages of globular clusters, provided their spectral types and masses are known. We therefore started a project to obtain spectra of white dwarfs in the globular clusters NGC 6397 and NGC 6752. All observed white dwarfs show hydrogen-rich spectra and are therefore classified as DA. Analysing the multi-colo...
متن کاملDiscovery of photospheric argon in very hot central stars of planetary nebulae and white dwarfs
Context. We report the first discovery of argon in hot evolved stars and white dwarfs. We have identified the Ar 1063.55 Å line in some of the hottest known (Teff = 95 000−110 000 K) central stars of planetary nebulae and (pre-) white dwarfs of various spectral type. Aims. We determine the argon abundance and compare it to theoretical predictions from stellar evolution theory as well as fro...

Spectral analysis needs the observation of lines of successive ionization stages in order to evaluate the ionization equilibrium (of a particular species) which is a sensitive indicator for the effective temperature (Teff). Since stars with Teff as high as 100 000K have their flux maximum in the extreme ultraviolet (EUV) wavelength range and due to the high degree of ionization, most of the met...
